Water Proofing Concrete / Mortar Bonding Agent

RockBond is styrene-copolymerized/ butadiene styrene based bonding agent, which offers stability under alkaline condition and compatibility with hydraulic cement.

RockBond acts as a bonding agent for new concrete / mortar over old one.

It increases flexural strength.
RockBond helps in reducing cracks.
It greatly reduces the penetration of water and other liquids.
It reduces the rate of chemical attack and improves frost resistance.
RockBond is a good additive in leveling compounds.
RockBond can be used as an excellent adhesive for most building materials such as bricks, wood, china, gypsum, plasters, linoleum felt, textile, and polystyrene boards.
It can be used as a bonding agent for cement screeds, renders, plaster and concrete.
RockBond is also used as an admixture for mortar and concrete.
RockBond can be used as a coating and admixture for structures facing the problem of rising water table.
RockBond is used as a sealing and priming coat.
Surfaces must be clean and sound.
Surfaces must be free from oil, dust, grease, cracked and unsound concrete, old surface grout, foreign particles, and any other loose materials.
Since RockBond has wide range of application, the followings are suggested recommendations that to be used in order to obtain the best results required.
1. Preparation of Rock Bond Solution (RBS)
To each One Liter of RockBond add One Liter water. This RBS can be used with the below suggested mix designs, unless otherwise stated.
1.1 Mix design 1: For rough renderings, bonding grout and cement grouts:
- 50 kg cement
- 150 kg silica sand (Particle size:2-3.5 mm).
Add the above cement / sand dry mix to about 50-58 liter of RBS.
Mix until the required consistency is obtained.
1.2 Mix design 2 : Mortar mix
- 50 kg cement
- 150 kg silica sand (Particle size : depends on the required thickness and roughness).
Add the above cement/sand dry mix to about 48 - 60 liter of RBS, depending on the consistency & flowability needed.
Mix by hand or by using low RPM mixer until the desired consistency is obtained.

2. Preparation of RockBond - prime coat solution (RBPCS)

To one liter RockBond add Two Liter water:
- This RBPCS can be used to prime the concrete surface prior to the application of cement screed. Cement screed should be applied while the prime coat is tacky. This RBPCS can also be used to mix level compound powder as general level compound primer.

3. Preparation of special RockBond Solution (SRBS)
- To One Liter RockBond add Four Liter water.
3.1 Mix design 3: For water proofing base coat to gypsum surfaces
- 3 kg gypsum
- 85 kg sand
- Add above dry mix to about 30 - 32 liter of SBRS.
- Mix until a fluid mortar mix is obtained.
- To a prepared surface, apply above fluid mortar mix by spraying. Continue spraying to get about 3 - 4 mm thickness, depending on the required thickness. Leave to dry and hardened.
- Apply the gypsum finish mix that is desired with the use of SRBS.

4. As priming coat and bonding agent:
- Apply by brush or roller on well prepared surface.
- The primed surface must be tacky at the time of mortar application.
- This will ensure excellent bonding between the surface and the mortar, as well as it forms a waterproofing layer.

5. Rendering cement :
- Apply mix design 1 on well prepared surface.
- When a finger nail does not leave any scratches on the hardened surface, apply mix design 2.
- You can apply 1 or more number of coats of mix design 2, to obtain the desired thickness.
- Screed, but do not use a wood float or steel trowel.

6. Bonding fresh concrete to hardened concrete
- Prepare the hardened concrete surface by hosing down the areas to be joined (pressurized water).
- Apply mix design 2 to pre-wetted or primed surface until you reach a thickness of 2 - 3 cm.
- Pour concrete immediately. It is very important to ensure an integral bonding between concrete and mortar.
- For full compaction, use vibration method.

7. Toppings :
- Apply mix design 1, by using a broom on well prepared surface, up to a thickness of 2 - 3 mm, refer as first coat.
- Prepare mix design 2 to a no-slump consistency. Apply on first coat while fresh.
- Screed and smooth surface with a wood float and /or steel trowel.
- Two hours later, spray about 150-200 grams of RBS/m2 to minimize water evaporation and to prevent desiccation from the screed surface.
- Moisten the surface after 24 hours and keep damp for three days.
- This method can be used to repair floors as well. But fine silica sand is advisable to use in mix design 2.
The coverage depends on the area of use and the type of application. However, the range of its coverage could be considered as 8 - 10 square meter per one liter.
Dosage is as described in the application.
RockBond is neither toxic nor harmful.
Wash hands and tools before RockBond solution or mix design gets dry.
In case of eye contact with RockBond solution, flush with large amount of water and seek medical attention if needed.

Keep away from frosting.
